    3. Bio-knowledge marine area

Sant Feliu de Guíxols has important marine resources such as Cala Ametller, punta de Garbí and Cala Vigatà that are a paradise for scuba divers because of its ecologic richness.  These places are included in the Bio-knowledge Marine Area in which we are working to combine a protected area and the tourism.

This project deals with two coastal marine areas that are included in the XarxaNatura 2000 Marina in order to promote and develop the seabed. They are managed by the Town Council by means of Custòdia Marina agreements and an active participation of the whole society.

Sant Feliu de Guíxols coast is full of contrasts. Rocky or sandy coves lay amid steep cliffs. From the south, coves and beaches like Canyerets, Cala Vigatà and Port Salvi must be pointed out, which extend up to Sant Feliu bay. To the north, Sant Pol beach still preserves the beauty of its 19th century buildings with clear, calm and shallow waters.

Also known as carril bici (cycle track), the Greenway connects our town with the inland plains up to Girona and Olot. At present, it has achieved a great importance for tourists because of the restoration of Sant Feliu old railway. Sant Feliu de Guíxols Greenway is the starting point and the end of the old “Carrilet” that ran from Olot to our town. It’s ideal for cycling or hiking.

Sant Feliu is characterised by its peaceful population and its quality of life. We must point out the personality of the ganxons, how the inhabitants are called, which is cheerful, genuine and friendly.

The town is full of identity, which we find in its special corners, like the local market. It provides fresh and quality products and offers a local trade in a welcoming atmosphere. We invite you to meet Sant Feliu inhabitants, while walking along the sea promenade or reaching the lighthouse and enjoying the views, the smell of the sea and the murmur of people. Do not miss the arrival of the fishing boats in the harbour early in the morning.

Route of the viewpoints

Route of the viewpoints

Sant Feliu de Guíxols has two different routes of viewpoints. They offer breathtaking views over the sea and are named after the old traditional works for women. It is a lovely acknowledgement to all the anonymous women from Sant Feliu de Guíxols and to the fight for the work and social rights of women, that still remains in force today.

TASTE THE MARKET

TASTE THE MARKET

If you want to find plenty of seasonal products, don’t miss the chance to visit the market of our town! It is located in the town centre, by the sea. Our indoor market is set up in a beautiful heritage building of the thirties that was restored in 2011. You will find different stalls: fish, meat, fruits, vegetables and ready-to-eat meals. There is also a playground, where children can have fun and a bar/restaurant on the first floor to physically recuperate. Outside the building, in the Market square, you will be delighted with the colours and scents of the km 0 products: the farmers offer you the vegetables that grow up in the Vall d’Aro, closeness, authenticity, good price and highest quality.
